Program Overview


The OWN wildlife care internship is a pilot program designed for those

looking to introduce themselves to wildlife rehabilitation and rescue.

Suited for college students in life sciences, pre-vet, conservation, and

environmental studies as well as Adults simply looking to start a new

career. Interns will learn the basics of caring for orphaned and injured

animals, as well as become more familiar with the nonprofit sector.

Internships are a part-time, unpaid 20 hour per week commitment for

12 weeks each session. This can be tailored to credit requirements

needed by your college department.

 

Program Outcomes


Interns will:

  • Provide basic rehabilitative care for orphaned and injured
    animals

  • Assist our volunteer veterinarian with clinic duties

  • Understand diets and husbandry for several species of mammals, birds, and reptiles

  • Communicate and educate the public on wildlife

  • Learn about North Carolina’s wildlife rehabilitation laws

  • Support with administrative duties involved within nonprofits

  • Understand the basics of the nonprofit sector

  • Engage with fundraising events

  • Complete a capstone project by the end of the internship
