Program Overview
The OWN wildlife care internship is a pilot program designed for those
looking to introduce themselves to wildlife rehabilitation and rescue.
Suited for college students in life sciences, pre-vet, conservation, and
environmental studies as well as Adults simply looking to start a new
career. Interns will learn the basics of caring for orphaned and injured
animals, as well as become more familiar with the nonprofit sector.
Internships are a part-time, unpaid 20 hour per week commitment for
12 weeks each session. This can be tailored to credit requirements
needed by your college department.
Program Outcomes
Interns will:

Provide basic rehabilitative care for orphaned and injured
animals -
Assist our volunteer veterinarian with clinic duties

Understand diets and husbandry for several species of mammals, birds, and reptiles

Communicate and educate the public on wildlife

Learn about North Carolina’s wildlife rehabilitation laws

Support with administrative duties involved within nonprofits

Understand the basics of the nonprofit sector

Engage with fundraising events

Complete a capstone project by the end of the internship
